Jason's music career began while attending the University of Arkansas in 1989. He worked as an audio engineer at the U of A audio department for three years, mixing live sound in local clubs, as well as traveling on the road with local band "Punkinhead." In 1992, Jason picked up the bass and joined the band "Ben Sniffinglu," with his first live bass performance opening for Green Day in Dallas, TX. A year later, Jason moved to Kansas City where he played bass in a handful of bands through the late 1990's.
Ready for a challenge and new inspiration, Jason moved to Los Angeles in 1999 where he played as a bassist, working with songwriters and bands at famous Hollywood venues such as 'The Roxy' 'The Viper Room' 'The Gig' etc. as well as forming the band Pow! with guitarist Pat Cherry.
In 2002, Jason worked as a writer and producer with artist "Charlotte Wincott" recording her first album "Meet the Girl," as well as several other songs, including the title track on her follow-up album "Condoms are not only Water Balloons."
While in Los Angeles, Jason taught private guitar and bass lessons to children and adults. He became highly recommended by Hollywood's premier Guitar Center which led to working with clients such as Minnie Driver, Tatum O'Neal and Ron Perlman. Jason maintained 20 to 30 students weekly, some of which stayed with him for the full 6 years he taught in Los Angeles.
In 2005 Jason built a soundproof recording studio at his home and began getting more serious about recording and producing music. He produced artists Erin Ford and Erich Schneider by assisting with songwriting as well as recording and playing multiple instruments. He also co-produced and recorded an album for "Rhymin' Reason" as well as recording several bands and songwriters from 2005 till 2007 at which time he and his family relocated to the Pacific NorthWest.
In 2007, Jason and his family moved to Portland, Oregon . Jason worked with Cori Teeple and recorded her song Nervous at his home studio as well as co-wrote, recorded and produced the song, Breathe with Elizabeth Strelow.
In February 2010, Jason decided to expand his growing studio and found a larger space in SE Portland to set up his gear. After sharing a space (Zoppa Room) with other engineers for 2 years, in January 2012, Jason moved to a new location. He is currently accepting new clients. The new studio is located in the same building as the old Zoppa Room, near the Burnside bridge in the Troy Arts Building. The new studio location originally was a large vault, and was converted to a recording studio by the previous tenant.
Jason is also accepting new students for private lessons on guitar, bass, recording, music theory, and more. Please see the lessons page for more information.
Feel free to contact us if you would like to discuss your recording project or are interested in taking lessons.
